11TH ANNUAL RACE FOR OPEN SPACE

SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2012 - 8 a.m.

One of the summer’s most popular events, the 5K (3.2 miles) Race for Open Space, will be held this year on Saturday July 16th at 8:00 a.m. starting at the Westmoor Club on Cliff Road. Organized by the Nantucket Conservation Foundation Associates, the race attracts serious runners, casual joggers, walkers and those who are simply avid conservation supporters. Proceeds from the Race will go to the Foundation’s Land Fund which helps preserve and protect the Island’s invaluable open spaces.

Pre-Registration:

You can pre-register in advance for the race by filling out the form below. On-line registration will close at 5:00 p.m.on Thursday July 14th.

Weather:

The Race for Open Space is held rain or shine.

Parking:

Parking is extremely limited – if possible, please arrange to be dropped off, ride a bike or even jog over (a great way to warm up!).

Drop-Off Area: There will be a drop off area opposite the entrance to the Westmoor Club near the entrance to Hinckley Lane.
Parking: If you must drive over there will be parking available at the Nantucket Conservation Foundation’s office at 118 Cliff Road (if you are coming from town the driveway for the office is on the left-hand side approx. 150 yards past the Westmoor entrance and will be marked with traffic cones

Registration and Check-in: 7:00 – 7:45 a.m.

Please take advantage of registering in advance using the secure on-line form below. You will still be asked to check-in before the morning of the Race to receive your runner’s bib.

You may also register the day of the Race prior to 7:45 am. The Race starts promptly at 8:00 – please plan on arriving at least 30 minutes prior to Race time to fill out the paperwork.

Entry Fee: $40

The entry fee includes a tax deductible $25 donation to the Nantucket Conservation Foundation’s Land Fund.

Race Start Time: 8:00 am (for all participants – runners, walkers, strollers, etc.)

Race Course:

The 5K (3.2 mi) course for all participants will begin and end at the Westmoor Club on Cliff Road. The course starts out heading west along Cliff Road past the Foundation’s Tupancy Links property, turns east on Madaket Road past Sanford Farm and then back to the Westmoor Club via Crooked Lane. PLEASE NOTE – The Westmoor Club has paved their driveway which now includes speed bumps near the start/finish lines. Please use extra caution at the beginning and end of the Race.

Results:

Professional, computerized timing and results are provided by Spitler Timing of Providence, RI. Participants will be able to see their times and places immediately after the Race. The results will also be posted on this web-site.

Post Race

Awards:

Prizes (generously donated by local businesses) will be presented to the winners in each of the male and female age groups(13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+ , and stroller)

Snacks:

Snacks and beverages will be provided by Nantucket Stop and Shop.

Merchandise:

Additional Race t-shirts, hats and Nantucket Conservation Foundation apparel will be available for sale at the end of the Race.
